Thankful For My Dentist And Vet - Thankful Thursday Blog Hop
Hi Pals,
Tell me what you see in my mouth - or maybe I should say don't see? Yup - I has no toothies - none at all. i used to have a mouth full in October 2008 when M & D adopted me.
My toothie story (or lack thereof) is located in a tab at the top of my bloggy. But the long and short of it is that I had a bad disease called Stomatitis - kinda like being allergic to your own tooth decay. They only way to get rid of the infections I was having was to pull my toothies - all of them.
This is Pet Dental Health Month and my good friend @BunnyJeanCook's mom wrote an excellent article in the importance of dental health here. Please take a couple of minutes to read about it. It is important information for kitties and woofies too.
If my problems had not been caught by my vet, I might not be here today. But she recognized the signs and sent me to see an Anipal Dentist, who confirmed that it was Stomatitis and recommended all my toothies be pulled.
My problem was discovered only a couple of month's after M & D adopted me because my mouth had one infection after another even after my vet pulled a couple of toothies. No amount of antibiotics would clear it up. That's when she sent me to the Anipal Dentist in a nearby city, who then confirmed the diagnosis and pulled my toothies.
That was 4 1/2 years ago and I've been doing GREAT ever since. I'm a happy, healthy boy and still able to eat kibble, as long as M buys a kibble that is smaller in size. I can also eat wet food, which I get plenty of. M does make a mountain out of my wet food tho cuz I have no teeth to really eat it properly. After I've eaten most of the wet food, she makes another mountain out of the left over on my plate. Then she tells me to clean my plate - and I do!
I am so thankful to my lady vet for recognizing the problem and sending me to the Anipal Dentist, and so are M & D. And we are thankful to the Anipal Dentist for his expert knowledge.
Almost every state in the US has an Anipal Dentist. You will find a link in my side bar so you can check out those in your state. M says, yes they are pricey, but at least have a consultation visit if your vet recommends one. Sometimes there is help available if you have trouble with the $$.

You´re a lucky cat!
We had never heard of stomatitis until we got to know you. We made Mommy read your toothies experience so she is aware of what to look out for. We don't have Anipal Dentists here. Our normal vets are also our dentists.
Mario, my sweet love, you are a fortunate kitty with very very loving pawrents. xoxoxo
Mario, you are so lucky to have such a caring mom and dad. xx
We are so glad you had this done sweetie...what great parents you have and you must be so grateful for them.
Sending Purrs,
Miss Kitty Izzy Ino
This is important. We think you are special, and handsome just as you are. ~xo~
Mario, can you believe TW once axed my vet to file down my teeth? She wanted him to remove them so I couldn’t bite her. thankfully, he said no, they didn’t do that. You are lucky you find M and D. Some other peep might’ve brought you back to the shelter rather than spend the money.
Gee Mario, I have never heard of that. So glad you vet caught it. M takes such good care of you.
Mario you have one great dentist and vet and we are thankful for the times you guest blogged about it for us!
My sister's cat, Stormy, went through the same thing. He was only a year old, and only had 9 teeth left!
Other than the obvious health benefits from his tooth removal, it has really helped out the dog. Storm loves to attack the dog and bit him!
I brush my cat, Thunder's, teeth every day. I figured that if I could train a horse to allow me to ride him, I could do something simple like training a cat to let me brush his teeth. At the age of 7, his teeth are gorgeous.
Aww Mario you are so lucky to have the family you do! It must also mean some yummy soft food for you :-)
Thanks for all the info, Mario! Paws crossed we kitties never need a dental specialist because the closest one to us is an hour away!
Glad your vet knew how to treat you. Luckily none of us have that but we know about it from friends who do.
Cats of wildcat woods
Mario we are so glad you were diagnosed and treated and now you are totally pawsomely healthy and happy.
We are so thankful you got the proper help too Mario!
Mario, wanted to let you know how cute you looked on the CB Calendar the other day. Whenever we see you, we marvel at how much you and Mau look alike; though, he has more black on his body. That's great that you do so well with no toothies. Purrs and paw-pats, Lily Olivia, Mauricio, Misty May, Giulietta, Fiona, Astrid, Lisbeth and Calista Jo

You are one lucky kitty, Mario!! Having had toothy problems myself, I can appreciate how you must have suffered in the past! xox
Yup, I'm down to two lower fangs, myself. And sometimes? Sometimes my upper lip gets caught on one of 'em. Makes me look like I'm sneerin' or somethin'. MOUSES!
Purrs,
Nissy
You were the first kitty we knew who had that awful disease. MMM needs to go in for her teeth. She's had one pulled and may need another done, but we hope not! Her vet says she just doesn't have good dental genetics.
We're late, so just hopin ya are feeling better now.
We is so glad that your vet recognized what was going on with you. :)
Poor mew Mario - I'm glad it's all better now though!!!
Oh Mario so happy they found what the trouble was and could fix it!!!!
If you had had caner they might not have been able to fix it.
So it is not a big deal for you and that is so good!!!
Tahnks for your visit!!!
We're glad you're all better! Thanks to your dentist and your wonderful parents too!
