Pancreatitis WHAT!!!!

Meow-ouch!

Hi Pals,

Yes, that's me at my favorite place again - the VET's.   Only this time they stuffed me in my carrier and I had to ride for 45 minutes to Appleton to see a different specialist kind of vet.   I was sent there instead of somewhere in our own city because they have an super sensitive ultra sound machine.

Gasp!  There they shaved my belly and a little up on each side.  Of all the NERVE!

If you look closely to my hind feet, you can see very short black fur. Unfortunately, it doesn't show up very well.   It doesn't really bother me, but I think it bothers M and Dl

They told my peeps that I was an extra good boy and they didn't even have to sedate me at all.   I did flinch slighty tho when they touched the area where the pancreas is located, but I didn't put up a fight or anything.

The vet put me on a yukky medicine that I'm supposed to take if I'm in pain.   M says it's hard to tell when a kitty is hurting.  But I guess her first clue should be if I start hiding in the closet and it's not raining or thundering.    If they can't catch me to give that med, I have something that can be rubbed on my ear - I don't mind that one.   But apparently it doesn't work quite as well as the other one.   M said she will use the icky med only when she knows for sure I'm hurting.  Otherwise, she'll put it on my ear if she thinks I might be in pain but isn't sure.

There is no cure for what I have, and the vet said I could have flareups (whatever that means.)   So if that happens, we have medicine on hand and can easily get more.

It has not affected my appetite, although I have very discerning taste as to what I like and don't like.   Just keep the good food coming and I'll be happy.

Me and my peeps are very thankful it isn't something worse.   But purrs and prayers now and then would still be appreciated.    We don't want it to get any worse.

We're joining Brian's Home Thankful Thursday Blog Hop.   Hop on board with us and have a little fun.

Oh no, Mario! I'm sorry you have pancreatitis. You know, that's what I have too but you must have a milder case of it than me because when I had a flare up I totally stopped eating. You keep eating...then the humans don't worry as much. I hope you're feeling better soon and you don't get any flare ups. ~Wally

Oh...and Mario? If M ever has any questions about pancreatitis, tell her she can contact my mom since she's been dealing with this with me for awhile now.

Oh my, I do hope that you only have very very mild flare ups if at all, and it goes complete. I get UTI's every now and then and they are a real pain for peep as I am NOT a good taker of meds.
Sending lots of purrs, Erin

I'm sorry to hear this. I hope the flare-ups don't get any worse, and if anything, go away altogether. I'm glad you have medicine for the pain.

Mes is sorry yous has pancreatitis. Mes has that, too. When mes has a flare, mes will turn my nose up at all the noms, and the Mom has to give mes that yucky pain med! Mes takes something for nausea all the time, and that has kept mes pretty stable for a whiles nows. Mes hopes yous will keep feeling okay!

Oh, Mario, I think we are cousins. And if humans had something they could rub on their ears to get well, WOW! Take your meds and you will be better and if you're in the closet, that's a good sign that you might need them. Very smart.

Whoa, furrend, I had no idea you were sick. A few years ago, the vet thought I had that but I didn't. What symptoms did you have? I had the squirts that time.

Mario, I'm sorry your pancreas is making you feel awful. I hope it calms down soon and you're not feeling poorly or in pain. Clicking on your picture to make it bigger makes it easy to see where they stole your furs. Mom always likes rubbing shaved furs because she says it feels warm and fuzzy. I hope your furs grow back quickly.

My dog, Angel K, had chronic pancreatitis. We managed to control it really well with a low fat diet. She did have flareups, when she'd vomit and not feel well. We'd take her to the vet where they'd give her IV fluids and meds. It happened only a couple of times in a few years before she got cancer.

So, I have great optimism that you'll stay well despite pancreatitis. I hope that your parents never have to give you those meds!

Genji had a bad bout of pancreatitis last year. He stayed at the vet for a couple of days and, when he came home, he had to be put on a diet of nothing but chicken in broth for a while, served often, in tiny portions, He eventually got all better (no medication) and now eats more or less "normally" although the food remains low-fat. I keep close ye on him as stoping eating is the first sign of a flare-up. So far so good. Paws crossed, for you too, Mario!

Peep #1 says KNOWIN' what ails us, is half the battle. I truly truly wish you weren't sick at all and didn't have to worry 'bout those flare-ups but at least your doctor knows what it is, and how to treat it. That's a good thing, I think. PURRS.

Oh, Dear. We missed this. Sending lots of POTP and pawyers for your wellbeing.

Vet man thought at first a few years ago that Angel-Minko had pancreatitis, but he later found out it was IBD.
Anypaws he did well on meds including antacids and steroids.

Keep on eating well, and taking your meds when necessary...even if they are yucky. They will help.
